What's In a Name ?

 Sycamore Tree General Store -

The idea for our name came to us one day as we were reading through this passage from the Bible and it really gets to the heart of what we want to be . . .

"Zaccheus was trying to see who Jesus was, and was unable because of the crowd, for he was small in stature.  So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a Sycamore Tree in order to see Him, for He was about to pass through that way."

                                                          Luke 19:3 & 4

It is our prayer that our lives and business would reflect the person of Jesus Christ so that we may all see Him more clearly, and follow Him as our Lord and King.

God Knows Your Name . . .

Isaiah 43: 1  says to Israel:

"But now thus says the Lord, your Creator, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel, 'Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine!"

and later in that chapter God says He will bring to Himself:

"...Everyone who is called by My name, and whom I have created for My glory, Whom I have formed, even whom I have made."

God knows you; He knows your name.  He made you and He loves you.  And His deep desire is that each one of us will respond to His invitiation to journey through life with Him.  As we surrender our own plans, our will, our self to Him we become one of His children, His student (or disciple), and also His ambassador (or Christian).

The word "Christian" actually means 'little Christ.'  It is a new name .  .  .  His name.  For those of us who would call ourselves "Christian," how are we living up to our new name?  We have been created for His glory.  I think it's time we made that our top priority, myself included!

Only One Name . . .

"And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."

                                                            Acts 4:12
